Alot has happened.
So i moved to arizona at the beginning october and since then have gotten a new coop up and build and a incubator. I lost one of my ameraucana's in the move. Most of the girls are in a molt atm so im only getting 2-3 eggs a day. I have since added to my flock, we have a white frizzled cochin (bantam) and another black silkie hen. My Bil got a red frizzled cochin (bantam) from the local feed store but he has mites so i have been treating him for it. Its been getting cold here so i now have a heat lamp in the coop for the girls. I also have eggs in the incubator that are due in two different hatches. One is do on the 14th and the second is due on the 19th. The first hatch is silkies/cochin mix and the second is a mix of silkies just diff colors. I ordered the second ones so there are 17 eggs in that one. All of my eggs have development and the ordered ones have about 75% development. Im hoping that i can get a paint pair from the ordered and maybe a trio of buffs also.

The end of a busy weekend. =)
So its sunday night and im sitting down checking my emails and responding to some of my ads and stuff when i thought i would update my blog.
So last sunday i had a hatch of 5 chicks all over a ameraucana rooster. I lost one chick the following morning, i dont know how but it was gone. I also lost a 6 week old silkie baby that same morning. But the rest of the babies are doing great. I am giving away three of the newly hatch chicks since i have some of those combos and they are all black and i have enough black birds. The only one im keeping is all white with one little black spot on its side. Its from a white leghorn, and it should lay a green or blue egg so we will see. That would kinda be cool to start producing white EE's. =)
Yesterday i went to a chicken meet up thing in norco and meet some really cool people, and saw this amazing rooster. He was a lavender ameraucana and i really wanted him but i have to have a dif coop and run for him since i have two roos in my coop and he would start a problem. I really want a lav roo since then my lav hen would have a pair and i could throw in my 3 black ameraucanas with them. =) As for today i help my dad clean out the tac shed and re orginize it, then i ran the shoots while my parents roped.

A little behind here. 9-12-11
Oops i totally forgot to keep this updated, so to everyone who read my first post and was like what happened to him, i just spaced on keeping up on this. So to inform you all, my lakenvelder has gone broodie now and is on day 13 of sitting on 5 eggs. I don't know who all the eggs came from but i know one is from my leghorn and on is from my sussex. I believe one is from an EE too. They will all be over my ameraucana roo, im super excited to see what the hatch will look like. I will only be keeping those that are not solid black. I have to may solid black girls atm i don't want any more. =) My blue ameraucana cockerel has started to crow and the other black ameraucana girls are letting him breed them. He is starting to learn how he should treat them and so far he comes no were near me which is a good thing cause i would like to keep him since he has the blue gene.
Also to inform everyone i will be moving with in a month or so with my sister to arizona, her husband works out there and she wants to go into nursing school since she has all the prereqs done and all that so i will be going with her to help her out with her kids and all. The flock will be split then as i'm leaving the ones my parents gave to me while i am living with them so that will include 8 hens and the black ameraucana.
My babies are growing very fast one of them is turning into a very pretty EE, black and white, i hope its a hen since i have wanted a black and white EE hen since i started keeping chickens.
Garden update now, its not going well. The corn has started to die and we haven't gotten anything good from that and so have the cucumber plants. They are only producing yellow cucumber which tastes bitter and all so the chickens have been getting a lot of it. The strawberries are doing good but when they start to turn red the bugs get to them or they start to wilt so i don't know. The tomatoes have all but died and i'm planning on harvesting the potatoes tomorrow or the next day and see how those did. The bell pepper plant has taken off and has 3 growing on it so far. The raspberry plant is dying at the base but growing amazing everywhere else. And the blueberry plant is growing slowly but its growing.
I had a interview last week at a feed store and i'm hoping i get the job, cause it would be amazing to work there, but at the same time i don't cause i don't want to be there for like two weeks or whatever the time frame is and then quit. OK thats all for now, if you have any comments feel free to state them or any questions go ahead and ask. =)

August 19, 2011
Today is the start of my very first blog. In my blogs i will be talking mostly about two things, gardening and chickens. If anyone who reads this has questions or comments feel free to ask or state them, as to questions i will try and get them answered as fast as possible.
So i guess to start off my name is john and I'm 22 years old and i have been raising chickens now for a little over a year. At the moment i just work where ever i can get a job till i can go back to school. I wish to go to culinary school to do pastries. I love to cook and cakes are my favorite especially lemon pound cake, yummy. I have a small garden at the moment but I'm working on expanding it. Its not about the knowing where my food comes from really its about the joy it brings me just sitting out there working in the garden while some times a chicken needs to "help me" by destroying something. They don't get to go in the garden much anymore since they like to dustbath in the cucumber plants.
On to the chickens. I have 26 of them 4 of which are a little over a week old. Im will be working this winter on breeding my ameraucanas. That pin will consist of three blacks, one blue and maybe a lavender hen and one blue rooster. I am not positive i want to start it but i have them so we might see. The rest are just my laying flock, that group seems to be growing all the time. I sell my extra eggs to keep up with the cost of there food. I mean if i can sell what's left for what i don't use that will pay for there food and maybe some extra treats. Which they get plenty of since they get veggies from the garden and scraps from dinner. All of my chickens are free range so they get plenty of running space since we are on 5 acres, and there are all the bugs they can wish to find. They do have a run that is attached to there coop that ever once in a while they get locked in the coop/run for laying in bushes and not the boxes. But the coop and run are big enough for them when that happens which i haven't had to do in a while.
Well thats all for now, thanks for reading what i have to say, John.
