Today is the start of my very first blog. In my blogs i will be talking mostly about two things, gardening and chickens. If anyone who reads this has questions or comments feel free to ask or state them, as to questions i will try and get them answered as fast as possible.
So i guess to start off my name is john and I'm 22 years old and i have been raising chickens now for a little over a year. At the moment i just work where ever i can get a job till i can go back to school. I wish to go to culinary school to do pastries. I love to cook and cakes are my favorite especially lemon pound cake, yummy. I have a small garden at the moment but I'm working on expanding it. Its not about the knowing where my food comes from really its about the joy it brings me just sitting out there working in the garden while some times a chicken needs to "help me" by destroying something. They don't get to go in the garden much anymore since they like to dustbath in the cucumber plants.
On to the chickens. I have 26 of them 4 of which are a little over a week old. Im will be working this winter on breeding my ameraucanas. That pin will consist of three blacks, one blue and maybe a lavender hen and one blue rooster. I am not positive i want to start it but i have them so we might see. The rest are just my laying flock, that group seems to be growing all the time. I sell my extra eggs to keep up with the cost of there food. I mean if i can sell what's left for what i don't use that will pay for there food and maybe some extra treats. Which they get plenty of since they get veggies from the garden and scraps from dinner. All of my chickens are free range so they get plenty of running space since we are on 5 acres, and there are all the bugs they can wish to find. They do have a run that is attached to there coop that ever once in a while they get locked in the coop/run for laying in bushes and not the boxes. But the coop and run are big enough for them when that happens which i haven't had to do in a while.
Well thats all for now, thanks for reading what i have to say, John.
